When you were born life stood still
That you belonged to us was so unreal
As a gift from God, you changed our world for good
Your baby years they slipped away
But the memories they remain today
And I smile when I think of how it was back then…

The Barbie Dolls and the Cheerios
The Pop-up books and those Disney shows
Birthday parties and prayers at night
“Hold me, Daddy, don’t turn out that light.”
I gotta know – Where did the time, where did it go?
I’ve got to know – Where did the time, where did it go?

Your toddler years they flew right by
The first day of school I think you cried
You prob’ly never knew it but so did I
The Nursery rhymes and your ABC’s
Knights in armor and princess dreams
Oh, I smile when I think of how it was back then…

The ballerina and baseball star
The training wheels and the monkey bars
Sunday School in those skirts that spin
The skinned-up knees and that toothless grin
I gotta know – Where did the time, where did it go?
I’ve got to know – Where did the time, where did it go?

The football games and a high school dance
That broken heart from your first romance
Your Senior year with caps and gowns
And now plans to leave our little town
I gotta know – Where did the time, where did it go?
I’ve got to know – Where did the time, where did it go?
